Meredith Hays has resigned as the Region 4 Representative to the Libertarian National Committee, with alternate Mimi Robson moving into the role following confirmation from the Libertarian Party of California.
In a message Thursday to the LNC’s public business list, Chair Steven Nekhaila said the committee had received Hays’ resignation, effective immediately, and confirmed that Robson would assume the role. He thanked Hays for her service to both the committee and libertarianism.
Nekhaila added that Barbara Engelhardt will now serve as the Region 4 alternate.
Hays first joined the national committee in 2024 after being selected by Region 4 leadership, which consists solely of the California affiliate. She also previously served on the LNC’s Convention Oversight Committee before stepping down.
Robson has served as Region 4 alternate since October, when she was appointed to fill an earlier vacancy. She is also an at-large member of the Libertarian Party of California’s executive committee. Engelhardt is a longtime member of the state party and a former Libertarian candidate for the California State Assembly.
While the change was announced this week, both Robson and Engelhardt had already been selected for those roles in February at the California affiliate’s state convention. Under normal practice, they would have assumed the positions at the Libertarian National Convention next month when regions meet to finalize the selection of their representatives.
At that convention, Engelhardt challenged Robson for the representative position but fell short in a close vote. Robson then nominated Engelhardt for the alternate role, where she defeated a challenge from Wes Martin.
