Vermin Supreme Plans Reality Television Competition to Select 2028 Running Mate

Frequent presidential candidate and political satirist Vermin Supreme plans to select his vice presidential running mate for the 2028 presidential election through a formal competition where contestants will face a series of challenges based on popular reality television shows.

The competition, titled Vices 4 Vermin, is being developed by multimedia art collective Dragon’s Tale Studios in collaboration with Grizz Media, Pop Damn Video!, and Team Supreme. According to details, the event will feature 20 contestants who will compete remotely, with a rotating group of guest judges participating throughout the competition. The final four will then advance to an in-person event.

“With challenges based on all your favorite game shows and reality shows – including The Apprentice, American Idol, America’s Got Talent, America’s Next Top Model, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Boulet Bros. Dragula, Heroes of Cosplay, The Dating Game, Candid Camera, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, Fear Factor, Fangasm, Big Brother, and more – and an amazing rotating cast of guest judges, you are sure to be entertained episode after episode on our quest to find the next American Vice President,” the announcement reads.

Supreme has sought the presidency in every election cycle since 1992. Over that period, he has appeared on presidential primary ballots of both the Democratic and Republican parties, largely in New Hampshire, where the requirements for getting on the primary ballot are relatively straightforward.

He also has a history of engaging with third parties, having sought the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination during the 2020 election cycle. Supreme finished third at that year’s Libertarian National Convention, making it through four rounds of voting and capturing 20% of delegate support at his peak. His original running mate going into the convention, Spike Cohen, went on to win the party’s vice presidential nomination and appear alongside Jo Jorgensen on the ballot.

During the 2024 presidential cycle, Supreme appeared once again on the Democratic presidential primary ballot in New Hampshire, as well as on the Legal Marijuana Now Party’s primary ballot in Minnesota. He also earned the endorsement of the United States Pirate Party. Supreme later qualified for the Delaware general election ballot as the Conservative Party’s nominee, running alongside Jonathan Realz. The ticket earned 914 votes.

The application process for the competition is underway until November 15. Prospective candidates must first purchase an official shirt before receiving instructions on how to audition for one of the 20 contestant spots. That purchase is being presented as part of the show’s satire of what its creators call the “pay-to-play” nature of American politics.

Organizers have not yet announced when the competition will premiere. Supreme has also not said how he plans to appear on the presidential ballot in 2028.

Editorial note: An earlier version of this article stated that the deadline to enter was October 31, based on information in the original announcement. Supreme confirmed to IPR that the correct deadline is November 15.
