Richard Cooper, as long as I have been dipping my toe in libertarian circles -since about 2002-I’ve been hearing John Mackey for president.

Austin, go back to the “Ich Vill a Little Tink” Tank & try again. George & I will let you know when you get it right.

Once again I agree with Prof. Phillies. Austin Petersen=wrong.

Most libertarians rightly question the government’s lie that man-made global warming is occurring.

Looking at data from the past 100,000 years, the trends are in no way abnormal. To say that this is man-made is like saying that an 80 year old man’s hair is turning grey for some reason other than that he is getting old. It is a *natural* cycle.

    “Austin Petersen writes
Conservative is more accurately described as being split into two parts. Social Conservatives and Fiscal Conservatives. ”

Baloney from the get -go. Conservatives are split in all sorts of different ways. There are high culture conservatives. There are racist conservatives. And there are Bush authoritarian conservatives. List is not complete. Mr. Root’s book, which I am re-reading, gives away exactly where he stands among these, starting with his kook claim that we are not having global warming. mhw, yes, labels are limited and limiting. I suspect most who call themselves fiscal conservatives would also be pro-deregulation generally. They may not, however, be advocates for allowing just anyone to practice brain surgery.

  7. Michael H. Wilson August 25, 2009

Question time. What are the points that define a fiscal conservative? Reason I ask it that phrase does not indicate that someone, or the group that define themselves as such, want to remove the legal barriers that have been erected over the years, such as licensing laws.

Fiscal conservative sounds like someone who does not wish to spend money. Nothing else falls into that sphere.

    Thanks

    Well said Austin!

  9. Austin Petersen August 24, 2009

Conservative is more accurately described as being split into two parts. Social Conservatives and Fiscal Conservatives. Technically if we were to define Wayne Root it would be that he is a Conservative personally, however his political viewpoints are Libertarian. Allow me to explain. Wayne Root clearly has socially conservative viewpoints on things like god and abortion, etc. He is also a fiscal conservative. However, though he has social conservative beliefs held personally, his personal philosophy is such that he would not legislate away the rights of gays and atheists, etc. So in the truest definition of the word you can be both a Conservative and a Libertarian, meaning you hold conservative values yet you refuse to force them on others. I believe that trying to lump someone firmly into one camp is intellectual dishonesty, or sloth.

In bizzaro world, nobody can tell the difference between a libertarian and a conservative.

  11. George Phillies August 24, 2009

    @11
Line this up with the 1998-period LNC strategic plan–not the current plan–which has us take control of Congress before then.

And I would urge anyone considering supporting Root to read his book carefully, because it gives away whether he is a libertarian or a conservative.

Root predicts “financial armageddon” within the next couple years, and a credible campaign for President in 6-10 years. Hmm…

  13. Richard Cooper August 21, 2009

I would like to see Whole Foods CEO John Mackey for the LP nomination for president in 2012. He is an LP member.

  14. Robert Milnes August 21, 2009

An all anarchist ticket will win in 2012. The super of third party/independent politics!Whodathunk?

  15. Robert Milnes August 21, 2009

Aaron Starr, I’m not surprised to see you cheerleading the rightist wrong direction Root faction.

  16. Robert Milnes August 21, 2009

The GOP will fail & conservatives will join libertarians & vote for Root, Libertarian for PRESIDENT 2012. NOT! Got it backwards, Wayne. The GOP will be ok. Conservatives will convince a lot of libertarians to vote GOP INSTEAD of Root. Ronulan Paulnut in reverse!///Wayne may very well get the LP nomination. No matter. I will get most of the libertarian AND progressive vote & win that way-again the reverse of Root.

  17. Aaron Starr August 21, 2009

No question about it. Wayne Root keeps getting better.

  18. Gene Trosper August 21, 2009

I have my disagreements on a few minor points with Root, but I do believe he appears to be honestly moving in the right direction. Perhaps not as quickly as we would like, but I do see him as an ally and agree with others that this was a fine job. Unlike others, I do believe one can change.

  19. libertariangirl August 21, 2009

thats my home-boy , kickin ass and getting better all the time!

  20. Gary Chartier August 21, 2009

I’m not a Root enthusiast, for all sorts of reasons, but I have to second Peter’s assessment: as a communicative performance, this was very good indeed.
