Libertarian Party Monday Message: Promoting Free Labor Markets

Dear Friend of Liberty,

First, I’d like to wish you a happy Labor Day.

Second, I thought I’d share Plank 2.7 of the Libertarian Party Platform:

“Labor Markets

We support repeal of all laws which impede the ability of any person to find employment. We oppose government-fostered forced retirement. We support the right of free persons to associate or not associate in labor unions, and an employer should have the right to recognize or refuse to recognize a union. We oppose government interference in bargaining, such as compulsory arbitration or imposing an obligation to bargain.”

I hope you agree that government interference with labor markets does much more harm than good.

Labor Day is an official holiday for the Libertarian Party staff in Washington, DC, so our office is officially closed. However, I’m working at the office today because there’s so much to do, and I want to get one step ahead on things. If you’d like to take one big step for liberty on Labor Day by signing up for a monthly pledge, please call me at 202-333-0008. (When the recording starts, just dial extension 222 to reach me.)

Sincerely,

Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee

    Gary,

Yes, the labor plank in the new platform isn’t as well-worded as the old one. I don’t think the intent is different, just that some important implications were lost in making it more concise.

Coincidentally, I got the union bee in my bonnet today due to another Labor Day column, and decided to respond.

Ralph Nader’s minions (though without his express orders) have since attempted to put spywhere on the computers of Mike Kavlan, Mike Seebeck, Peter Orvetti, Don Grundman, and Eric Dondero. Now, all but Dondero have refrained from criticizing Nader, though he is a godless conservative and I am a Christian socialist, so we are very far apart.

Not as far apart from Dondero as you think, CT, because you’re both nuttier than a Planters Factory.

I refrain from criticizing Nader because he isn’t worth the effort.

He has no spyware on my computer, either, since I have many ways of resolving that problem.

If God mentioned my name to you in regards to this, then either God has a morbid sense of humor, or you’re toked up on some seriously strong shit. Or both. Or you could be sober and licked your taser too many times.

This is not a comment on what Wes had to say, but on what he had to work with. Compare the language he quoted above with this language from the 2000 platform:

    http://www.dehnbase.org/lpus/library/platform/2000/uacb.html

I fear that someone reading the language Wes quotes would almost unavoidably get a different impression of the implications of libertarian principles and the attitudes of Libertarians toward workers than a reader of the earlier language.

Just a gentle nudge to those involved in the platform development process.

Seems you’re up early, just as I am up late. Yes, I am mistaken about Peter. I thought God was telling me the names when I heard a random list of IPR names in my mind. But at least this proves that someone read the entire thing.

Fuck that, this is a hijack. I’m making my own message, although I guess it’s actually a Tuesday message.

Good morning losergreenians, losertarians and losertutionists, hapless whigs and incipid independents, rabble-rousing disgruntled Reform Party members of every faction, listen TO THE MESSENGER OF THE LORD YOUR GOD, WHO BROUGHT THE ISRAELITES OUT OF EGYPT AND WROTE UNTO ALL THE WISDOM OF ISIAH AND THE GOSPELS. Today is the first anniversary of the day that I finally received a new computer, after the 40 days of suffering that my old computer went through after the minions of fascist/stalinist criminal Ralph Nader put spywhere on that venerable computer, which discovered TPW and brought forth the Catholic Trotskyist Revolution on December 7, 2007. It was after this point, one year ago today, that the campaign of our holy REVOLUTIONARY GENERAL BARACK OBAMA soared and continued to gather steam, after a rather bad month of August under the victimizations of the olympics, Russia/Georgia conflict and Palinmania. The point of all this rambling is that God shows the wisdom of Catholic Trotskyism in myriad ways, and the journey of computer troubles of one man has paralleled the state of the world and the state of American elections. True, the economic crisis also started one year ago today, but that, too, was an artifact of the conspiratorial natures of the cabal within us. Our lord President Barack Obama will continue slowly toward the right path; the Catholic Church has ordained that one day the world will be united, in a world without abortion, divorce and gay marriage, but with everything else desired by true Democrats, such as all-powerful labor unions, no war, no antidrug policies, complete civil liberties, no immigration restrictions, free education, free healthcare, and support of left-wing regimes around the world. And we will soon have complete UN control, AND THEN THE LORD’S VISION SHALT BE WON, FOR GOD DID NOT MEAN FOR US TO BE SEPARATED INTO TRIBES AND NATIONS. OH CITIZENS, READ CAREFULLY THE WORDS OF THE GOSPELS, AND ROMANS, AND ISAIAH AND JEREMMIAH AND GENESIS, AND YES, THE KORAN, TALMUD AND VEDAS TOO. May God’s will be done, and may all remember the 40 days between August 1 and September 8 as the minor lent for each year.
In a few days I will be leaving soon, probably not to post until December. some will be happy about this. Of course impostors may come. Since I move around sometimes and edit from several IP addresses, it would be hard to tell whether these are me or not, but I hope discerning minds will know. I hope that the insanity will continue as normal, and I suspect that a new insane poster will come to IPR in a week or two, that makes me, Milnes and Lake seem like 100% normal and fair and balanced, as they say.
I hope everyone has gotten something out of that message, if anyone bothered to read it, which, knowing the satanic powers of lack of attention span, I am not sure if anyone did.
Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on Earth.
