Malibu, CA. – Speaking at a fundraiser for Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation (ADVF), co-hosted by Free & Equal Elections Foundation, Marianne Williamson, best-selling author, Congressional Candidate 2014 (Independent, CA-33) endorsed Christina Tobin and the Free & Equal Elections Foundation. Marianne will be a keynote speaker at Free & Equal’s upcoming United We Stand Festival at UCLA, May 10th, 2014.
“I agree wholeheartedly with Christina that the chokehold the two major political parties have on our political system right now is, in fact, sucking all the oxygen out of our public discourse. I think JFK meant it, and I think he was right, when he said, ‘Let us find not the Democratic answer or the Republican answer but the right answer.’ I think the spirit of the American people at our best is not necessarily desirous of being filtered through the dogma of a major political party. Abolition didn’t come from a major political party; women’s suffrage didn’t come from a major political party; the civil rights movement didn’t come from a major political party. There’s a course correction. There’s a yearning of the American heart right now. While the political parties have a role to play—Christina is absolutely right—they were not intended by the founders. They are not even mentioned in our Constitution. George Washington warned us against them. There is something trying to happen in American, and we shouldn’t be limited by anyone or any institution. What Christina is trying to do is pure American, in its most radical sense. Hats off to you, Christina Tobin.”
Marianne is thankful for our platform which will help give honest candidates like her a “free and equal” chance at getting heard in the media and winning the election. As a CA candidate, she will have to beat the Top Two system by getting second place in the June election. Marianne stated that 18 or 19 independent candidates getting elected to Congress would be enough to make a difference in Washington. Free & Equal wants to foster those candidates, in hopes that many of those candidates are young people.

The former Natural Law Party/ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi followers were heavily involved with that. I wonder if she is/was part of that group.
I’m not particularly a star watcher, but since I live I’m the Los Angeles area, I know of her as a New Age personality who often marries celebrity couples. I’m anxious to hear what she has to say in her run for office. She seems to be a genuinely compassionate woman,
She’s been covered in multiple stories here.
for those like me who have no idea who Marianne Williamson is, this is
from wikipedia [sarcasm on] the source of all knowledge [sarcasm off]
Marianne Williamson (born July 8, 1952)[1] is a spiritual teacher, author and lecturer. She has published ten books, including four New York Times #1 bestsellers. She is the founder of Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program that serves homebound people with AIDS in the Los Angeles area, and the co-founder of The Peace Alliance, a grass roots campaign supporting legislation to establish a United States Department of Peace. She serves on the Board of Directors of the RESULTS organization, which works to end poverty in the United States and around the world. Williamson is also the force behind Sister Giant, a series of seminars and teaching sessions that provides women with the information and tools needed to be political candidates. Through these seminars,[2] she encourages women to run for office and align their politics with their spiritual values.
She has been a guest on television programs such as Oprah, Larry King Live, Good Morning America and Charlie Rose. In December 2006, a Newsweek magazine poll named her one of the fifty most influential baby boomers. According to Time magazine, “Yoga, the Cabala and Marianne Williamson have been taken up by those seeking a relationship with God that is not strictly tethered to Christianity.” Williamson bases her teaching and writing on a set of books called A Course in Miracles, a self-study program of spiritual psychotherapy, based on universal spiritual themes. On October 20, 2013, she announced her candidacy for California’s 33rd congressional district, joining fellow candidate Brent Roske in the race against Rep. Henry Waxman.
