The Village Voice reports on its website that Rep. Charles Rangel of New York will be challenged by Craig Schley, “a former Rangel intern who has never run for any elected office.” Schley, “an activist and former male model, found 5,580 people in the last month who want Rangel out of office and were willing to sign the petitions he needs to become an independent candidate for the congressman’s seat. He filed those petitions with the Federal Election Commission last week.”

First this must be said. Craig Schley came out of nowhere less than one year ago at a 125th Street Rezoning meeting. He does not really know Harlem. He uses the ideas and work of others who know Harlem to get over. He used the 125th Street Rezoning as a way for him to get a lot of media face time that he felt would help “position†him to run against Rangel.
Charlie Rangel needs to go but a seasoned Harlemite who really knows the Village of Harlem should replace him. Not an opportunistic and manipulative Harlem “newbie†who is trying to get a name for himself while attempting to “get over†on Harlemites.
This Wilhelmina Model man is attempting to hook on to the discontent of Harlem Residents with the present crop of sorry Harlem Politicians. He is also hoping that the Harlem Community does not carefully examine him and his past/present deeds too closely. In other words, as mentioned above, he sees this as an opportunity to “get over†on Harlemites because of their anger towards Rangel.
Harlemites should definitely be angry with Rangel but not so angry as to allow Craig Schley’s fake concern for Harlem and the 125th Street Rezoning to blind them to his (Craig Schley’s) manipulation of the present painful state of politics in Harlem.
This guy is slick because along with banking on the Harlem Community’s massive dissatisfaction with Charlie Rangel he is also attempting to “hook on†to Obama’s call for change. As indicated above he will use the ideas and work of others to push through his own (real) agenda. And also, as previously indicated, Charlie needs to go but this “Model of Distraction†should not be the one to replace him. Mr. Slick Schley has attempted to use the email of other groups to get himself known, piggy backed on other groups’ rallies to give a false impression that he is leading these groups, is the executive director of vote people that has abused human rights (although it claims to be for human rights) and has yet (it is believed) to stop using a web site to which it has not been given rights to.
Last this must be said, Craig Schley came out of nowhere and he needs to go back there for the good of the Village of Harlem.

To clarify, I don’t have a problem with anarchy as an ideal society. I simply refuse to believe that ignoring the reality of our society and praying for a complete collapse will somehow make people “wake up”.
Deran, I once thought as you did. And it still remains a glimmer of a fantasy to me. You wait for the day when the government will do something preposterous that magically, all the people will finally stand up. The cold truth of the matter is that this will not happen. Too many people are wedded to government entitlements to give a damn.
If Rangel really believes in reinstating the draft (I sound cynical again, I know…) he’s playing with fire and being overly optimistic of a precarious scenario.
Deran, anarcho-capitalists have been referring to themselves as anarchists for over 30 years, and it is a technically accurate description, so I don’t see why you’re so opposed to it.
Also, trying to come up with a silver lining to the draft is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Again, with the ahistorical use of the term “anarchist”. G.E. is apparently an anti-statist, but not an anarchist; as that term has been used for the last 100, 150 years.
I sort of favor the draft; it would keep the wars to a minimum, because if there were a draft people would react very, unhappily, when the US decides to go to war. Unless it was like WW2. And with the caveat that it is not some sort of required number of years in the military for everyone, like Israel or S Korea, just if there were a war.
And, I’m saying this based on the world around me, not the utopia in my mind.
