George W. Bush is hitting the lecture circuit. Represented by the Washington Speakers Bureau, Mr. Bush for a fee of at least $150,000 flew up to Calgary, Canada and spoke to a conservative business audience amidst street protests.

He also has signed a book contract with Crown Publishers tentatively titled “Decision Points” about a dozen personal and presidential decisions ranging from giving up booze to choosing Dick Cheney to invading Iraq.… Read more ...

Startling early poll results on potential impact of fusion voting

A new poll release today by premium-service polling agency PRA provides a clue as to the dramatic potential of fusion voting to swing a national election. While in the past certain presidential candidates have touted a union of two or more third parties as a sure-fire means of breaking the two party system, it remains to be seen whether they will make any headway armed with the new figures.… Read more ...

Former presidential candidate Mike Gravel running for office – in Korea

As the few stragglers left on Mike Gravel’s website have noticed, he has taken a strange interest in South Korea lately.  For those of you who don’t know, he ran as both a Democrat and Libertarian for president in 2008, and was a Senator from Alaska from 1969 to 1981.  Gravel apparently believes that it is going through some political events right now which may be a perfect opportunity to implement a national ballot initiative system there. … Read more ...

Barr on MIAC and continuing efforts to retire campaign debt

From an email sent by Bob Barr:

While I am rarely surprised, I am always angered when I find out a government agency has issued a suggestion that you and I may be part of a “militia movement” and that we may become terrorists.

Why are we the target of such suspicion?… Read more ...

Former US President Bill Clinton joins Libertarian Party

In a move that few, if any, people saw coming, former US President William J. Clinton is set to announce today that he is joining the Libertarian Party. Clinton first hinted at his new political direction back in 1997, but Libertarians didn’t believe him, and not long afterwards called for his impeachment.… Read more ...

20th Congressional District: 59 vote difference, Libertarian party in middle

Scott Murphy is the candidate for the Democrats. Jim Tedisco is the Republican. The special election to fill the 20th Congressional District seat in New York, vacated when Kirsten Gillibrand was appointed to Senate, is too close to call. Media reports show Murphy winning with a lead of 59 or 65 points.… Read more ...

Attention Readers: It is my delight to announce that Dr. Ron Paul, Congressman from Texas, will be running for President in 2012. As a former Libertarian, and longtime support of open ballot access and general third party improvements, this is good news for the readers here at Independent Political Report.
