Congressman Keith Ellison Endorses Marianne Williamson for Congress

Ellison calls Williamson a needed progressive leader

Today, Marianne Williamson, candidate for Congress in California’s 33rd District, announced the endorsement of U.S. Representative Keith Ellison of Minnesota, serving since 2007.

“I proudly endorse Marianne Williamson. She is a progressive leader who offers to inject a spirit of love, generosity and inclusion into politics as usual. We sure need it,” he said.

He continued, “Not only does she challenge conventional politics, but she also challenges spiritual activists because she invites them to bring mindfulness and love into the profane world of politics where knotty problems like campaign finance, stagnant wages, and climate change need solving. Of course, the spiritual activists, like Martin Luther King, Dorothy Day, and Bishop Desmond Tutu, have always incorporated the sacred into their activism, and achieved results. So in a way, her candidacy is reminding us of how true and meaningful change really happens.”

“Keith Ellison’s endorsement is very meaningful. He recognizes a larger historical narrative that is involved in social change, and I am grateful for his support.”

Ellison is the first Muslim to be elected to the Congress. He is also the first African American elected to the House from Minnesota. Ellison is a co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Chief Deputy Whip for the 113th Congress, also notably serving in the House Committee on Financial Services.

“I believe that there was an article in The Washington Post about Ms. Williamson last week.”

If you would be so kind as to provide a link, it may make a good article. Love when alt. candidates get major media attention.

Exquisite symbolism that probably went over the head of his critics.

Yes, although actually it doesn’t take anything nearly that lofty to go over Virgil’s head.

About the oath of office on the Koran. Truth be told, no member of Congress takes his oath of office on the Bible. They take an oath to uphold the Constitution, then they have a photo op with a bible, and Congressman Ellison did his photo op with a Koran.(Religious oaths are actually prohibited by the Constitution, where it states “there shall be no religious test for officeholders.”

Congressman Ellison did not just use any Koran, He was able to requisition Thomas Jefferson’s Koran from the Library of Congress. Exquisite symbolism that probably went over the head of his critics.

Because Virgil doesn’t like Muslims. Or keep his word for that matter. Maybe there’s something about that in the Quran?

FFS Virgil. He’s Muslim, why wouldn’t he take his oath of office on the Qur’an?

    Thanks for the background.

BTW, he is also the congressman that Virgil Goode got his panties in a bunch about, because Ellison took his oath of office on the Quran.

Rep Keith Ellison is a Democrat, elected on an antiwar platform in 2006. Interestingly, Tami Lee, the Independence Party candidate against him ran an active campaign, and received more than 21% of the vote – 51,456 – the highest vote cast in Minnesota for an IP candidate for Congress.http://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=169979

The Republican in the same race received 52,263 votes – 21.3%

FFF, please keep the “functional candidate” …stuff… on the thread dedicated to that.

  10. God bless Keith Ellison. He is easily deceived but at least it’s for the good of country. The Functional Fillmore Frugal movement also endorses Marianne because we knew by analysis of her writing that Marianne will be a functional Congresswoman
