Forward Party Announces First Round of Senate Endorsements

The Forward Party announced on Tuesday afternoon their first set of endorsements for the upcoming US Senate elections.

In an email blast to supporters alongside an official statement on their website, the Forward Party named their first round of endorsements, selecting three candidates from three different political affiliations. Included in the list of candidates was Democrat Mark Kelly running for reelection from Arizona; Republican Lisa Murkowski running for reelection from Alaska; and independent candidate Evan McMullin running from Utah.

Evan McMullin, an ex-CIA officer, left the Republican Party and ran for president as an independent in 2016 after growing discouraged by then-candidate Donald Trump. McMullin failed to qualify for most state ballots but took 22% of the vote in Utah and seven percent in Idaho. Lisa Murkowski, while going on to caucus as a Republican, also made ballot history in 2010 when she won her Senate seat through an organized write-in effort after losing the Republican primary to Joe Miller. She was the first member of the Senate to do so since Strom Thurmond won from South Carolina in 1954.

The Forward Party is the creation of three earlier political organizations, including the initial Forward Party established by Andrew Yang, the Serve America Movement created by former Republican Congressman David Jolly, and the Renew America Movement. It announced in July that it planned to field candidates in the next election cycle but would support “select candidates in November who stand up for our democracy, even if they come from outside the new party.”

In their email announcing the endorsements, the Forward Party explained their endorsement process and how they approach supporting candidates from across the political spectrum.

“When considering candidates to endorse, the Forward Party took a truly unique approach that reflects our commitment to ground-up, collaborative politics,” the party clarified. “We convened a Candidate Working Group composed of National HQ staff, advisors to the party, and grassroots leaders from across the country, elected to their position via a Ranked-Choice Vote by their peers.”

The Forward Party announced that it would release additional endorsements for both local and state offices in the coming days.

    Michael – the CIA has provided candidates to several parties.

    In 1965, former CIA asset William F Buckley ran for Mayor of New York on the Conservative Party ticket.

    Several Republican Congressman were involved with the CIA, including Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia.

    In 2008, The Libertarian Party nominated former CIA asset Bob Barr for President.

    There are probably more, but they have in most cases maintained their cover.
