Utah’s Ballot Access Deadline Put on Hold Amid RFK Jr. Lawsuit

Utah has agreed to postpone its ballot access deadline following a pending lawsuit by independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., filed earlier this week. The initial deadline of January 8 has now been rescheduled to March 5, 2024.

A copy of Kennedy’s pending lawsuit, shared by the local Utah media outlet KUTV earlier this week, argued that the former rules concerning petitioning placed a significant economic burden on Kennedy. It further contended that the initial timeline would have required the hiring of expensive professional petitioners to meet the January 8 deadline.

“No state in the history of the United States has sought to impose such an early date to collect, validate and file ballot access petitions to secure ballot access for the general election to be held on the far-off date of November 5, 2024,” the lawsuit stated.

Now, according to a statement released on the social media platform X by Utah Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson, the deadline has been extended until March, providing independent candidate Kennedy with an additional two months to collect and certify the required minimum of 1,000 signatures.
