The Reform Party announced over the weekend that it will not stop former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from appearing on the Florida state ballot unless Kennedy himself withdraws from the party’s ballot line. The party nominated Kennedy as its presidential candidate earlier this year.
During a press conference last Friday, Kennedy informed supporters that he was suspending his presidential campaign and would remove his name from the ballots in ten battleground states. However, he intends to keep his name on the ballot in states where either Republican nominee Donald Trump or Democratic nominee Kamala Harris is already expected to win. Kennedy then told supporters that he planned to “now throw my support to President Trump.”
Despite Kennedy’s decision to remove his name from key ballots and his subsequent endorsement, the Reform Party, one of several parties to give Kennedy a ballot access line, stated via X on Saturday that it will not remove Kennedy’s name unless directed otherwise. The party posted, “We have filed paperwork for [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.] to appear on the Florida Ballot. He will continue to be the Reform Party’s candidate unless he withdraws from our line.”
Editorial note: Following the publication of this article, the Reform Party reaffirmed its support for Robert F. Kennedy Kennedy Jr. on social media.
The Reform Party currently has ballot access in Florida and Mississippi. Kennedy only received the support of the Reform Party of Florida; however, as he initially sought to appear on the Mississippi ballot by using the We The People Party designation.
Kennedy did not specify during his speech the ten swing states from which he plans to remove his name, though he has already withdrawn from the Arizona, Texas, and Pennsylvania ballots as of this article.
