Campbell City Councilmember Endorses Independent Timothy Grady for Ohio Governor

Campbell City Councilmember Tim O’Byran has endorsed independent candidate Timothy Grady in this year’s race for governor of Ohio, the Grady campaign announced Tuesday. This is the third endorsement of the campaign from a local official this month.

In a statement from the campaign, O’Byran, who was first elected to the seat in a nonpartisan race in 2019, praised Grady for speaking from a place of principles and for his focus on younger leadership.

“[Grady] speaks on basic principles and moral values when these older politicians forget what put them there.” O’Byran said. “I like the fact you are the future. I wish people would actually take ideas from the younger generation, simple because you are literally the future.”

Grady welcomed the endorsement in turn and credited O’Byran as a resource in helping him understand the needs of Campbell and similar communities, which he framed positively as part of the “Rustbelt.”

“It’s the sort of city my campaign is literally all about, a Rustbelt Renaissance,” Grady said. “Our smaller Rustbelt cities have been through so much but really they have so much potential, I feel, for the 21st century economy.”

O’Byran is the third local officeholder to endorse Grady’s campaign this year. Earlier this month, Ada Village Councilor Sean Beck announced his support, followed soon afterward by West Lafayette village council member Tyler Maple.

Though running as an independent, Grady has also received endorsements from the United States Pirate Party and the United States Transhumanist Party.
