D.C. Libertarians Plan “Micro Convention” to Select 2026 National Delegates

The Libertarian Party of the District of Columbia will hold a brief annual convention early next month to select delegates to the 2026 Libertarian National Convention and conduct other party business.

In an email sent to Independent Political Report, party Chair Bruce Majors said the event is scheduled for April 4 at Zorba’s Café, located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The convention is expected to begin at 2:00 PM local time and run through the afternoon.

In his email, Majors described the gathering as a “micro convention” due to its brevity, and said local members will meet to elect delegates to represent the affiliate at the national convention in Grand Rapids this May. He added that members will also consider the election of new party officers and that the event will provide an opportunity for prospective Libertarian candidates to address attendees.

According to delegate allocation figures released by the Libertarian National Committee last year, the District of Columbia affiliate will have two delegates to the upcoming national convention, a decrease of one from the 2024 cycle. Under the most recent party bylaws and convention rules, the affiliate may also select up to 50 alternate delegates.

Majors said the delegation will consist of either D.C.-based Libertarians who plan to attend the national convention or individuals selected by local members to represent the affiliate, including Libertarians from Virginia and elsewhere outside the district.
