The LSLA Meeting scheduled for Seattle in February has been canceled for a litany of reasons, which we will be covering in more detail later.
IPR will also strive to bring more details as we learn them. The LSLA is the Libertarian State Leadership Alliance, which includes a meeting of state chairs and training sessions for party leaders and activists from all states.
Over the last few years, meetings have been held in conjunction with LNC meetings, but this one was supposed to be a stand alone event.

Let’s not make this more than what it is.
Details about the February event were slow in coming. Few people registered, once information was up, and lots of individuals on the state chairs mailing list said that they wouldn’t be able to attend. It was clear the event would be minimally attended.
As to how and why the ball got dropped on the event? I suspect its likely mundane issues like procrastination or preoccupation with other matters. Stuff that sadly happens with volunteer organizations.
But I don’t know. More importantly, I don’t care, because it just doesn’t matter. What’s done is done.
The important question is, “What’s the next action?”.
On the state chairs mailing list that question is being answered. People are taking this as a call to action, and as you can see from Kevin’s post above, it is having results.
It’s official. 26 LP state chairs have voted to have a “special LSLA” meeting in Columbus OHio on August 19, Friday. This is just before the LNC meeting. We have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. More details later.
But, this meeting will be 99% workshops on party building, organization building, helping candidates, and driving the LP brand.
To pull-off a Washington DC event in April, at this late start was not considered by the state chairs.

According to the LSLA’s bylaws: “The date and place of the Annual Meeting shall be set by the members participating in the previous meeting.”
The Chair of the LSLA is responsible for conducting the business of the LSLA.
I do not see where LSLA Chair Rachel Hawkridge has the authority to cancel a duly called meeting.

LP state chairs are discussing a special meeting and to re-energize the LSLA. Nothing final yet.
But, this would include some new officers, creating a vice-chair position, and maybe having a workshop in 2011. Again, nothing final and up to the LP state chairs.
