Wes Benedict resigns as executive director of Libertarian Party of Texas; Robert Butler hired to replace him

From an email sent by Wes Benedict to Texas Libertarians on December 31:

“Texas Friend of Liberty:

This email goes out to about 5,000 people. Our preliminary counts show 933 people have contributed a total of about $139,672.50 to the LP Texas in 2008.”

Wes goes on to say,

“Our budget for 2008 was $144,000. I’m especially proud that we raised $139,672.50 in such a challenging environment.”

and,

“Today is my last official day serving as Executive Director of the LP Texas. I’m especially pleased that the LP Texas has identified a new Executive Director, Robert Butler, who has experience serving as an Executive Director and State Chair in Ohio, and I’m currently working with him to transition into his new job here in Texas.

Throughout my four and a half years serving as the Executive Director of the LP Texas, I’ve tried to be motivating, but realistic, and a straight talker as well.”

One last quote from the letter:

“I think most other states are too embarrassed to release their numbers, or they’re so low they don’t even bother counting! Anyway, that’s enough of my bragging about how well Texas Libertarians have done in 2008.

With hard work and perhaps a little luck or other good fortune, growth of the Libertarian Party in Texas will continue in 2009 and beyond.

I’d like to thank all of our 2008 donors, candidates, officers, volunteers, voters, and any others who have participated with the Libertarian Party one way or another.”

Wes has applied to be Excecutive Director of the national LP, and is also looking for other opportunities.
