Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic backs Gary Johnson

Krist Novoselic

Nick Gass, Politico.com, May 31st, 2016 (via American Third Party Report):

For Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, the money will roll right in from former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

“I just gave the maximum contribution to @GovGaryJohnson presidential campaign,” Novoselic tweeted Tuesday. The maximum individual contribution permitted under federal law is $2,700.

According to public records, Novoselic previously donated to a series of predominantly Democratic candidates and organizations. He also gave to Virginia Libertarian congressional candidate William Redpath in 2010 and independent Pennsylvania candidate Nicholas Troiano in 2014. He also donated to Ron Paul in 2007 as the then-Texas congressman with libertarian leanings ramped up his bid for the Republican nomination.

Novoselic then tweeted a link to a blog post written last Thursday in which he laid out his thoughts on the landmark 2010 Citizens United case and the history of campaign finance law in general.

“The best one can do to serve democracy is to understand and study issues,” he wrote in the nearly 3,700-word treatise. “Don’t believe the hype about Citizens United. It was a good ruling that protected the right of people to hear information without the government picking and choosing who could speak.

Funny timing, Chris. I just posted an article about Rufer.

I looked up Chris Rufer and found this Wiki article about the company he founded:

The Morning Star Company is a California based agribusiness and food processing company. Morning Star processes 25% of the California processing tomato production, and supplies approximately 40% of the U.S. industrial tomato paste and diced tomato markets. It has 400 employees and revenues of $700 million.[1]

The company has attracted attention for its libertarian philosophy of no supervisory management. Instead, workers are encouraged to innovate independently, define job responsibilities themselves, and even make equipment purchasing decisions in consultation with experts.[2]

That sounds like a really interesting place to work at.

I think the Libertarian candidates are off to a great start. And Chris Rufer had stated that he will donate at least a million dollars to a PAC supporting Johnson. There is so much news coverage that it is hard to keep up with it! And a State Senator in Nebraska has switched to the LP. Encouraging events.

    Good on You…

Kristol’s “WHO?” candidate notwisthanding, Gary is the NeverTrump candidate.

He will get the Libertarian 1-2, Anyone gets that.

But he could get a LOT more, and I expect him to if media stays with him.

It can bring a Lot more people in, where the Perrys and the Phillies of the party can educate him and see if they want to stay. But the LP can save the Country and the World by getting 4-12% in the Right States…

He doesn’t have to win the election, and He Won’t. He doesn’t have to win a state, and he won’t.
He has to be a credible opponent to Trump. That he Can be.

Speaking of news stories not posted:

There was a report I read earlier of a pledge of $1 million from a CA businessman to a Johnson Super PAC. It included his name and business, but I didn’t have time to link it here.

That was a great interview … major exposure … Thank you for posting it RC!

I have to say that in prior LP POTUS campaigns, there was always great excitement whenever our candidate got some news coverage somewhere, and we’d all rush to read or watch. We were lucky to get several chances to do so over the course of the campaign.

With Johnson/Weld 2016, there has been so much coverage every day since right before the convention that I can’t read or watch it all – a lot of interesting stories not posted here on IPR at all.

It should not be surprising that the controlled mass media provides coverage to LINO (Libertarian In Name Only) controlled opposition candidates.

Someone may be compiling stats, but what’s so interesting to me is that Johnson/Weld are now getting HARD NEWS coverage. It’s not just the usual ODDITY/ALSO RAN coverage that the L candidate gets.

Weld has probably already gotten more coverage than all L VP candidates combined since 1972.

Most of the coverage has been positive. I even kinda like GJ’s somewhat quirky moments, like responding to a hypothetical DJT attack by blowing him a kiss. It was disarming and charming.

I see PurplePAC is revving its engines, too.

    So far, so good.

    All one of them….

    Let the scrutiny begin.

Chris, might want to do a different pic- the url link of the image appears to be broken.

Only need 3,704 more rock stars to give the maximum contribution to hit the 8-figure fundraising mark predicted by the “grown-ups” in the party.
