The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire stated on its X account over the weekend that it had endorsed the presidential candidacy of Republican Donald Trump. But is the party actually supporting the former president? Well, no.
While it’s true that the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire made a post on Sunday announcing their support, the party did not actually endorse Trump. The post was part of a promotion being run by the party for PorcFest, one of the largest regular annual gatherings of libertarians in the country. PorcFest, which recently celebrated its 21st gathering, ran from this past Thursday to Sunday in Lancaster, New Hampshire.
As of this moment, the party has not formally endorsed any presidential candidate. Earlier this month, it announced that it would not be supporting the Libertarian Party nominee Chase Oliver, but that’s it.
On Thursday, the party posted on social media that it would be selling usage of the account for $25 to interested attendees who visited the party’s booth. A physical sign at the booth also indicated that the donation would come with a free party membership. Only one post would be allowed per individual, with the party asking that people not share content that would otherwise get the account banned. The party additionally noted that any instance of “#lpnhporcfest” should be regarded as a sponsored post.
“For the next 3 days, we will be selling tweets for $25 at PorcFest. You can say anything you like that won’t get us banned,” the party shared. “Come speak for the Libertarian Party! Limit 1 per person. Sponsored tweets will have the tag #lpnhporcfest.”
Still, the disclaimer did not stop a number of people from taking the post at face value, both inside and outside the Libertarian Party. In the first twelve hours since the fake endorsement was made, the post was seen by over 34,000 users and shared 150 times, including by Lily Tang Williams, a Republican congressional candidate running in New Hampshire. Tang, who is seeking New Hampshire’s second congressional district, praised the party for the post and expressed her desire for more libertarians to join the “MAGA movement.”
In addition to the statement on endorsing Trump, the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire also shared sponsored content endorsing other candidates for office, praising the Nevada state affiliate over itself, and making several statements more personal in nature. According to the party, it had raised over $800 by the final day of PorcFest as a result of the promotion.
Steven: I disagree with your conclusion only in that I think you overestimate the number of legs. Even if you’re counting the giant but flaccid elephants phallus as a leg, that’s probably still an overcount. Does smoking the cheeba make folks see double like liquor, or do you have any other reason to see double? I’m not trying to be mean or implying you do, just mildly curious. I’m seeing 1 – 1.5, maybe 1.25 legs, I think .
To be fair: I feel that way about all parties – the LP is just the worst, precisely because their ostensible goals are the best.

Steven Berson: way too early to know. My best guess is OLIVER might end up on very roughly about 20 state ballots for very , very roughly 200 electors max, with write in capacity in most remaining states .
What states are you missing? Lots! Any state where the LP still needs to petition and or a Mises faction control state party could conceivably screw it up or sabotage it passively or aggressively or both – or a Mises faction might sue them out of it even if they’re on the outs –
Then there is Mises majority lnc (ugh, I’m starting to speak L.P. JARGON again just from reading this crap – gross@) – which could sabotage it on yet more states, in a variety of ways, including even suing states to remove them eventually.
They’re not at that point yet. But the dominoes are lined up. It could happen.

This is purely a prediction versus reality guessing game for me anymore, to adjust prediction model factors in response to feedback. As I learn new crap, I’m like, duh, of course, why didn’t I see that sooner?

I don’t think it should be anyone’s business what my name is, much less my email (I pretty much never check any email anymore, but that’s tangential), ip, or whatever else gravatars convey. I don’t think it should be anyone’s business whether or where I use other “names” and, if I do, how many.
Gravatars, or even screen names, are an invasion of privacy and an invitation to ad hominem nonsense. Nothing good ever comes from those things. I would much appreciate if site management restores the ability to comment by timestamp alone, or better yet timestamp + comment number, if possible.

I disagree with your headline. I think their crowdsourcing, entrepreneurship and social media trolling are a better expression of their true loyalties than any “formal” committee vote stuff, which is not what their faction/group/whatever considers important. At least that’s my way outside impression.
I’m way, way far from there – physically, in terms of spending priorities, etc, etc – but if anyone is there, well off enough (and interested enough, and unconcerned enough about giving them money, etc) it would be slightly interesting if they would disprove my hypothesis by stopping by their booth and tweeting, let’s say, a Biden, Stein, Oliver, etc endorsement, or anything else that would be way off brand for them.
For example, any Sarwarks or friends thereof could tweet their hopes that Sarwark return soon as LNC chair, although I suspect they’d rather not boost this group’s membership or finances.
Another example, somebody could tweet some pride month love, unironically. Or some fervent hopes that the fedgov crack down hard on crypto asap.

So, how big of a fall this year in ballot access for the LP POTUS candidate, relative to 2020’s 50 States + DC, will we see? Seems at this point New York is a definite no go because of nowhere near close to needed signatures collected; Michigan, New Mexico, Idaho, in question because of conflicting claims of who controls the affiliate; New Hampshire, Colorado, Montana affiliate heads all stating they will not forward the nomination of Chase Oliver – what a frickin’ circus. What States am I missing in that list of 7 that Oliver/Ter Maat ticket might not end up the ballots on?
