Free and Equal Elections to sponsor Chicago launch of Amato book

Free & Equal Elections is sponsoring the Chicago launch of Theresa Amato’s new book Grand Illusion. The premier will be held at the Union League Club on Thursday, June 4. Amato will also be participating in a forum on Printer’s Row this Sunday.

Former Green Party national co-chair Greg Gerritt of Rhode Island, Green Party mayor of the Village of Greenwich, NY and national party web manager David Doonan and Campaign Foundations and Georgia Green Party co-founder Hugh Esco have founded a new business to help Greens running for office win their elections.

California Green Party opposes all ballot propositions

A set of proposals will be voted on soon in California. The propositions will be decided in a May 19th ballot, and the Green Party in California is panning them all. reports that the California Nurses Association, which supported Ralph Nader in his Green Party backed 2000 run, has also voted to recommend against voters passing the proposals.… Read more ...

Independent elected to Alexandria, VA city council

In what the Alexandria Gazette Packet called an “Election Shocker”, independent Alicia Hughes was elected to Alexandria’s city council.

As reported by Michael Lee Pope, outgoing Democratic Councilman Ludwig Gaines called for a new party leadership after this defeat, saying “The buck stops with Susan Kellom.”

According to the article, Hughes was “adopted” by the local Republican Party when she made a habit of asking incumbents to justify their votes.… Read more ...

Eugene Platt, Charleston (SC) Greens fight Interstate expansion

In a letter published in the Charleston Post and Courier, Green Party spokesperson Eugene Platt called for an end to plans to extend Interstate 526 onto Johns and James Islands.

Platt, an elected member of the James Island Public Service District Commission, pointed to a resolution against the proposed extension passed unanimously by the Town of James Island Council on April 7 as evidence that the communities most impacted by this proposed road are united in their opposition to the project.… Read more ...
