The Workers World Party, in an editorial in its party newspaper, “congratulates the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on the 60th anniversary of its founding. In 1948, when it defied the imperialist world by refusing to bow down before the U.S. occupation of southern Korea and declared its existence as an independent republic committed to socialist development in the north, few of the capitalist pundits thought it would survive one year, let alone 60.” The WWP praises Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as “both great leaders of the struggling people of Korea,” and concludes, “Long live the DPRK!”

Mike – Point of clarification: It isn’t that I can’t tell the difference, it’s that they won’t elaborate on them when asked. They support the USSR, etc. That doesn’t tell me a whole lot about their actual ideology.
“No one would be dumb enough to accept support from a group praising Nazi Germany or Apartheid Africa.”
Not now, but at the time, several prominent figures and companies, like Henry Ford and Pat Robertson were happy to associate with them.
But most folks with two brain cells to rub together, know already what Kim Jong Il is all about.
But McKinney would be very smart to denounce the WWP at this point.
Could the Greens on this board please pass this along to her?
Let’s not forget this is also the group kooky McKinney proudly displayed her endorsement from. No one would be dumb enough to accept support from a group praising Nazi Germany or Apartheid Africa. But apparently, the left is still glad to take aid from parties that boldly praise present regimes right out of the mold of Stalin and Hitler.
…oy…
GE mentioned earlier that he couldn’t tell the ideological differences between the various socialist parties. This is one of them.
The way they perceive the USSR, North Korea, the Chinese government and other so-called socialist nations.
The smart socialist groups denounce them and offer a far more democratic model, the dumb ones just pretend that these governments are ideal and just ignore the secret prisons and the police state.
Wow. This is absolutely ridiculous and shameful.
…and in other news, the Workers World Party congratulated the Sudanese government for defying the imperialist world by refusing to bow down before international human rights groups and curtail its genocide in Darfur. In a postscript to its press release praising North Korean leaders, the WWP also endorsed the concept of hereditary monarchy, provided the monarchs are suitably critical of the United States.
