A whopping 11 days after the election, independent Bill Walker has been projected the winner of the Alaska gubernatorial race. This story explains why vote counting in Alaska takes so long.
The former mayor of Valdez and ex-Republican headed the so-called “Unity Ticket”, with Democrat Byron I. Mallott as his Lieutenant Governor running mate. At last count, Walker led Republican incumbent Sean Parnell 47.86% to 46.14%.
What was good news for Governor-elect Walker is bad news for the newly-formed Alaska Constitution Party. Their gubernatorial nominee, J.R. Myers, fell short of the 3% threshold necessary to win ballot access for the party.
Constitutionists in Alaska previously had ballot access in the form of the Alaskan Independence Party, but they have since disaffiliated from the national Constitution Party, joining other former CP affiliates in California, Montana, and Oregon.

They stay qualified through voter registrations, and since they are close to the number of registrations they need, if they need to do another registration drive Scott wil just raise some money, keep half for himself, and then either pay himself to do it with the other half or hire chumps that he may or may not pay as promised with the other half. Oh and the same thing goes for working the phones to get the money raised; he’ll call the proven big donors who cut him a nice check every time he calls them, and give the rest of the list to some chumps that he hires at a much lower rate while he keeps the lion’s share of the fundraising commission for himself. Anyway, bottom line for the LP is that if they need to do a registration drive to stay qualified, it will get done successfully, no problem; and if they don’t, never fear, because other state LPs will hire Scott to screw donors, fundraisers and petitioners in their name, which will happen regardless. Three cheers for crony capitalism and ongoing, consequence-free profit making from stolen donor lists!
The Alaska CP has a lot further to go to do a registration drive. I’m sure Scott will be happy to take the work if you have the money, although he yells at other libertarian petitioners for taking contracts from other alt parties and independents besides the LP. If you don’t have the money I wish you luck with the voter reg drive. And I wouldn’t mind seeing Alaska again (it’s been way too long), but then if you had the money and wanted to hire me you would have called me already, so I am not expecting a call, plus I have an issue with taking any more CP contracts unless and until Virgil or someone else makes good on the money still owed from 2012.
There, that’s some equal opportunity bitterness for you. But hey, I tried to keep things positive here earlier and folks decided to take in the other direction.
Additionally, Pam Goode, our candidate for AK HD#9, performed better than any other opposition party legislative candidate in the nation this election cycle.

Actually, the ALP is barely holding on and they’ve been on the ballot for decades. The votes aren’t yet all counted or finalized until 11/28. The bitterness that is continually displayed on this site will be your downfall, sooner, rather than later. Negative harping is tiresome. Why not focus on your own positive accomplishments. The ACP is proud of our efforts, and as of now, 6,761 or 2.51% of the Alaskan electorate approves. It is also known that we did influence the outcome of the gubernatorial race.
That, and the CP starting to suck in their electoral performances more then usual these days.
