The Constitution Party of Oregon will meet in Bend later this week for its Primary Nominating Convention, outlining party goals for 2024, endorsing candidates for local and state office, and selecting a 2024 presidential ticket.
The Primary Nominating Convention will occur on Friday, May 25, 2024, at the Alfalfa Community Hall in Bend, Oregon. During the convention, members will meet and endorse candidates for various local and state offices. To seek the party’s endorsement, candidates are required to sign a pledge committing to uphold its three guiding principles. Additionally, members will strategize and lay out plans for establishing affiliates in every county.
“The state party currently provides ballot access for candidates at all levels, state, county, and local. Our goal in 2024 is to establish properly constituted parties in each county in the state,” the party states on its website. “County parties not only play a role in their local area but also form the basis for the State Central Committee. In the interim, the Steering Committee, which consists of chairs in the various counties, serves in lieu of the Central Committee.”
The party will also choose a presidential nominee from two identified candidates vying for its ballot line, although the party has not publicly released the names of these candidates. While the National Constitution Party has already named its presidential ticket, nominating Randall Terry and Stephen Broden, the Constitution Party of Oregon emphasizes that its members are not obligated to select the same candidates.
According to information on the Constitution Party of Oregon’s website, the party disaffiliated from the National Constitution Party in 2003 citing “irreconcilable differences over our core principles.” Since then, it has worked with other organizations, including the Independent American Party in 2013. Currently, the party operates as a standalone entity without affiliation to any national organization.
