Brian Holtz reports at Libertarian Intelligence

The Libertarian Party Platform Committee met in December in Las Vegas. It adopted 16 proposals, two of which include “pending amendments”. (A pending amendment is subject to an initial majority vote by the convention delegates before the proposal it amends receives its usual up-or-down 2/3 vote.)

Political backlash toward libertarian ideas is promising”

From an article published in the Loyola Phoenix, By Will Livesley-O’Neill:

It’s been a bad couple of weeks for libertarianism, which means it’s been a good couple of weeks for me – and for America!

That pesky philosophy, beloved by both upper-middle-class classical studies majors and guys in Montana whose two possessions are a shotgun and a rag for polishing a shotgun, has had the kind of news cycle that just makes you want to drop out of society once and for all to form a utopian state in the middle of the ocean.… Read more ...

Words Do Have Meaning
Co-Authored By Guy McLendon & Jeff Daiell
In writing about her novel, Anthem, Ayn Rand said she did not want statists to have this excuse, once a police state had America in its grip, "But that’s not what we meant!"

In some cases, frankly, a totalitarian state is the goal for advocates of statism.

Libertarian Platform Committee Recommends Modest Changes

img_1523_croppedThe 2010 Libertarian Party Platform Committee met in Las Vegas on Dec. 12-13 and adopted a relatively modest set of 24 recommendations to the current “greatest hits” platform that the LP assembled in 2008 from language chosen from nine previous LP platforms.  That complete overhaul in 2008 came on the heels of a revolt by the delegates to the 2006 Portland convention, in which they deleted 46 out of the 61 planks of the 2004 platform and left the platform with massive holes necessitating the 2008 reconstruction.… Read more ...

2008 Libertarian Party PlatCom Secretary Invites Greens To Find Common Ground

From a blog posting today by the Secretary of the 2008 Libertarian Party Platform Committee (i.e. this reporter):

GP+LP fusion won’t send the right electoral signal unless there is a clear national-level statement of our common ground.  There are two good possible starting points for such a statement: 1) the Free Earth Manifesto, and 2) this redacted version of the Democratic Freedom Caucus platform

Libertarian Presidential Hopeful Looks To Build A Bigger Tent

Declared 2012 Libertarian Party presidential hopeful Tom Knapp writes today:

[…] There are lines and limits to be drawn if the Libertarian Party’s “purists” and “pragmatists” are going to work together […].   What set of fundamental beliefs is common to the Libertarian Party’s fundamentalists and to those whom the LP hopes to lure into a “bigger tent”?… Read more ...
