Mark West: ‘Libertarian Ideals: Unintentional Self-Destruction’

By Mark West

All Libertarian Party candidates have experienced it at one point or another. Laying an enormous weight on every chance post and idle utterance, this grueling beast can eviscerate a campaign in a matter of moments. Yet, battling for balance with this monstrosity wearies every candidate and stalls campaigns in the malicious mire of friendly fire.… Read more ...

Los Angeles Libertarian Kevin Shaw Wins Lawsuit Against Campus Free Speech Zone

A Los Angeles college student who sued his school for allegedly curbing his right to free speech after it prevented him from passing out copies of the U.S. Constitution was vindicated in court this week.

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), which represents nine schools, including Pierce College, agreed on Wednesday to settle a lawsuit filed against them last year by student Kevin Shaw after he was barred from passing out copies of the document because he wasn’t in the school’s designated “free speech zone,” which measured 616 square feet or about the size of three parking spaces.… Read more ...

In 1996, I was a new Libertarian, a refugee from the GOP. My friend Chet had introduced me to the Libertarians more than a year before. I wasn’t impressed until I saw Harry Browne on C-SPAN.

Third Parties Can’t Win, Part 1

“Third-parties have no chance of winning!” -Way too many voters in Arkansas

Admittedly, this indubitably frustrating refrain echoes on the lips of thousands of Arkansas voters every election. Any time a third-party candidate asks for a vote, with a dreadful certainty, this rejoinder is ripped quickly from its sheath and enthusiastically deployed in parrying any thoughts of winning an election that may have been dancing in the minds of third-party candidates.… Read more ...

A Clamor in the Commonwealth; Massachusetts Libertarians Look to the Future in Springfield

Assembling in the Aria Ballroom of the new MGM Springfield earlier this month, the Massachusetts chapter of the “Party of Principle” coalesced around the call for liberty in the era of the Trump Administration. Over four dozen activists, joined by such prominent figures as Paul Jacobs, Carla Gericke, former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld, and Reason editor-at-large Matt Welch, convened to discuss the direction of the party in one of the most partisan and deeply divided political environments in recent history.… Read more ...

Voting and Attendance Records for the Libertarian National Committee Members 2016-2018 Term, Compiled by Chuck Moulton

Long-time Libertarian activist Chuck Moulton has taken the time to compile the voting records, both roll-call and email, for the members of the Libertarian National Committee for the past two-year term. This information should be helpful in making choices of whom a delegate might wish to vote back onto the committee.… Read more ...

Joshua Smith’s Normal Blue-Collar American Problems

This post originally appeared on 71 Republic, who pulled it down hours later with this statement. Its author, Paul Grindle archived it here, from which IPR pulled it for this post. As an aside, 71 Republic’s defensive assertion that “the victor should be selected on the basis of their ideology” after promoting Smith previously here is curious in the context of a currently running series in favor of libertarian monarchism.Read more ...

LP.org: ‘Slash federal spending to make Tax Day less painful’

LP MEDIA RELEASE: Slash federal spending to make Tax Day less painful

For the 56 percent of Americans who pay federal income taxes, April 17 will be a painful day. That pain may be lessened slightly because the Internal Revenue Service has been nibbling away at payroll withholding taxes, but the sad fact is that the income tax represents only a portion of the pain we actually experience.

July 20, 2017

Subject: Perhaps “Working with White Nationalists” Is Not the Best Approach?

Dear members of the Libertarian Party of Florida Executive Committee:
We are losing good members, and the trust of the public, due to the elevation of leaders in extremist hate groups to our party leadership.

Arvin Vohra, Vice Chairman of Libertarian Party, Announces Run for U S Senate

July 4, 2017

Over two centuries ago, our founding fathers declared fierce and open opposition against their own government. Today, I invite you to do the same with me. Today, I proudly announce my intention to run for United States Senate.

My campaign will be bold, unapologetic, and fearlessly Libertarian. I’ll be audacious in the debates they allow me in; I’ll be incendiary as hell when they don’t.… Read more ...
